In the course of time, the English Bulldog has lost its vicious character and acquired a good-natured temperament. Needless to say, it took centuries to breed out malice and cruelty. Yet, breeders have achieved impressive results. Even though the English Bulldog of today retains the signs of its historic past manifested in appearance, the breed is generally mellow and sweet inside.

Awesome teeth and strong jaws along with a low body build, which makes it particularly hard to kick the dog off the feet, should not startle one. As a matter of fact, the English Bulldog is an even-tempered sociable dog. Many Bulldog owners state that the dog will never initiate a fight and is generally good with other pets. Dignity and self-assurance do not let this canine gentleman take part in nonsensical skirmishes. Nevertheless, the English Bulldog is always there to stand up for himself and his owner.

Courage is a peculiar feature of the American Bulldog too. It is not for nothing that the American Bulldog is the symbol of the US Marines. One of the most valuable qualities is its protectiveness. A great athlete, the American Bulldog will never give up no matter how hard his work is. However, the breed enjoys being around children and makes a good companion.

The French Bulldog is loved all over the world. Yet, the French are surely the most devoted breed owners. In fact, the French Bulldog is the National pride of France. Its tail that resembles a comma, bat-like ears disproportionate to the rest of the body, and small loving eyes are the distinctive features of the breed. As a matter of fact, the breed is probably the cutest of all the Bulldogs.
