It is recommended to purchase Bulldogs from reputable breeders. Buying a puppy from a breeder, whose success in breeding seems doubtful, is rather dangerous for reasons too numerous to mention. To determine a breeder, who is likely to sell only high quality Bulldogs, ask him a number of questions:
" How profound is his knowledge of the Bulldog's history, varieties, activities it is used in, traits, health concerns, etc.?
" What experiences does the breeder have? Devoted Bulldog breeders cannot help participating in a show ring or any other competition.
" Does the breeder associate with the breed clubs?
" How often is the dam sired?
" Which tests did the parent dogs undergo?
" Do the parent dogs have titles and good pedigrees?
" Will the breeder recommend you to raise your would-be Bulldog for a show ring, obedience trials, or as a pet? How promising are the Bulldogs he produces?
It is also wise to visit a kennel. The condition of the kennel will show the attitude of the breeder to his dogs. A clean place will confirm that the breeder cares about the puppies' health. It should not be overcrowded to avoid infections. Puppies should be vaccinated against rabies and other conditions. Ask for written proof of vaccinations. Little Bulldogs should look overall healthy and agile.
